Private University
Private University, a university duly established through a state Act by a sponsoring body viz. a society registered under the societies Registration Act 1860, or any other corresponding law for the time being in force in a state or a public Trust or a Company registered under section 25 of the Companies Act, 1956.

The Govt in Education Department enacted The Meghalaya Private Universities (Regulation of Establishment and Maintenance of Standards) Act, 2019 for ensuring that Private Universities of the State maintain standards as per the specified norms, guidelines, rules and regulation of UGC, AICTE, BCI, MCI, DCI, PCI and NCTE in order to see that quality in higher education is not compromised.
